SIBU, Feb 16: Residents of Rumah Berawang in the Nanga Tada Resettlement Scheme have been ordered to move out following a landslide that hit the longhouse on Feb 4.

Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana said he understood that the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (JPBBS) had conducted a survey of the longhouse on Feb 7.

“As a result of the survey, the residents of Rumah Berawang (20 doors) have been ordered to move. This is because the longhouse is not safe to live in due to the landslide,” he said when attending a briefing by the Public Works Department (JKR) in Sibu Division here today.

JKR Sibu Division briefed Anyi about the occurrence of landslides in the Nanga Tada Settlement Scheme, Kanowit.

In order to solve the issue and ease the burden of the residents of Rumah Brawang, Anyi will channel the budget from the Rural Transformation Program (RTP) project of the Ngemah constituency to open a new build site for Rumah Berawang.

Two other longhouses in the same area were involved in the landslide. The status of one of them, Rumah Jelai (21 doors), has yet to be determined by JKR.

“Whether residents are ordered to move or otherwise depends on the expert report from JKR Headquarters later,” Anyi said.

As for Rumah Engkamat (only four doors were affected), he explained that the landslide had affected the ditch in front of the longhouse.

This matter, he said, will be referred to the Kanowit District Council (MDK) for further action.

Also present were Sibu JKR Engineer Chieng Siong Ming, Sibu JKR Deputy Engineer Leong King Yap, Sibu Resident Office representative Diana Toh Kah Yien and Tuai Rumah Berawang, Jelai and Engkamat. ā€” DayakDaily
