KUCHING, Feb 16: The first edition of Silabur Ultra Trail (SUTra2023) will see a total of 544 participants challenging themselves on mountainous trails and exploring the Silabur caves.

According to Serian Resident Wee Chung Yee, more than 100 participants are from 18 countries overseas, namely Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, South Africa, Philippines, Ireland, France, Poland, United Kingdom, Myanmmar, USA, Hong Kong, Belgium, Netherlands and Australia.

“About 40 per cent of them (registered participants) are Sarawakians and the rest are from West Malaysia and Sabah,” he said during a press conference held at Serian Resident Office today.

Wee noted, although registration has closed, they expect bigger participation for the event next year.

“Since this is the first time for us to organise it, next year, we will try to organise it bigger with a target participation of 800 to 1,000, and we are going to have a 100km category,” he added.

He also hoped that the event will be added as a tourism calendar event for the year 2024.

Organised by Alpha Sports Event (ASE), SUTra2023 will take place on March 19, at Kampung Lobang Batu, Tebedu, covering natural mountain trails and the Silabur caves which is also known as Jade Cave.

Participants stand to win plaques and trophies by competing in four categories, namely 8km, 15km, 30km and 60km. — DayakDaily
