LAWAS, May 8: The Long Sukang community recently received a new clinic and living quarters from Samling Timber Sdn Bhd.

According to a media release today, the building was presented after Samling received its certification from the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) and Sarawak Health Department.

The appreciation ceremony was hosted by Sarawak Health Department and attended by SaraWorks Sdn Bhd project director and senior site personnel Bobby Chia and Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline head Thomas Apun as a representative of Samling Timber.

In total, more than RM2 million was invested in this nine-month project.

The new building now comprises small surgery rooms, examination rooms, a pharmacy, medical rooms, a ward, and clinical staff quarters, making it a mini hospital with basic healthcare facilities to treat outpatients daily.

Samling Timber chief executive officer Lawrence Chia said the company is always ready to be a good neighbour and lend a helping hand to local communities like Long Sukang.

“For us, it is about empowering people, uplifting communities, improving lives, and bringing positive transformation.

“Our contribution to constructing the Long Sukang clinic is part of our long-standing commitment to supporting the needs of the communities in which we live and work, as well as to play our part in safeguarding the health and safety of residents in the area,” he said.

Prior to the construction of new facilities, the old clinic was depleted and had lesser appropriate healthcare services for emergency care and walk-in patients, especially for childbirth.

Special illness and emergency patients had to spend hours travelling to seek medical consultation in nearby towns.

The medical officer for Limbang Division, Dr Norliza Jusoh, expressed gratitude for Samling Timber’s commitment to the community of Long Sukang.

“A well-functional clinic and quarters go a long way in ensuring the health and safety of residents in Long Sukang and nearby villages, as well as the well-being of the medical practitioners in this area,” she emphasised. — DayakDaily
