KUCHING, July 24: Efforts to expedite the reconstruction of the Biawak Health Clinic have entered a new phase after an alternative site in Kampung Jantan, Lundu, was identified to replace the original location, which was found to be no longer economically viable for development.
According to Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, the reassessment was carried out after the estimated construction cost at the original site in Kampung Tanjam-Opek increased to approximately RM54 million, compared to the project’s original allocation of RM15 million.
He elaborated that the new location is not only more cost-effective to develop but is also more strategically located to ensure that residents of Biawak and the surrounding areas have better access to healthcare services.
He said this while leading a site visit for the Biawak Health Clinic reconstruction project in Lundu on Thursday (July 23), as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
The proposed reconstruction involves the development of a Type 4 health clinic which will be equipped with various facilities, including an emergency unit, maternal and child health clinic, dental clinic, radiology unit, and staff quarters for healthcare personnel.
Billy said the provision of modern and comprehensive healthcare facilities is among the government’s priorities to ensure that rural communities receive quality, comfortable, and efficient healthcare services.
He expressed hope that the site assessment process and project planning would be completed as soon as possible so that the reconstruction of the Biawak Health Clinic could be realised soon, thereby improving the delivery of public healthcare services in the Opar constituency. — DayakDaily
