Lo to Kong on Mile 7 Bazaar traffic jam: Unhelpful criticism unnecessary

KUCHING, Oct 14: Unconstructive and unhelpful criticism to ‘add fuel to the fire’ over the bad traffic condition at the Mile 7 Bazaar due to ongoing road construction is unnecessary and inept.

Hitting back at Michael Kong, the special assistant to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Ching Jen, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang asserted Kong should understand that any infrastructure project especially one related to roads may cause temporary inconveniences to road users and the community.

“However, the benefits will be enjoyed by the general public in the future (when the project is completed).

“His kindness is sought to help explain to the general public the importance of infrastructure development instead of causing unwarranted inconvenience by spewing unneeded stress on hardworking public authorities!” he emphasised in a statement today.

Lo pointed out that providing continuous infrastructure development was needed so that economic prosperity in this township can be sustained and progress.

He stressed that the Public Works Department (PWD) was working hard to complete the current project at the Mile 7 Bazaar that would enhance public infrastructures in the area for the convenience of the public.

“It is for the betterment of the quality of life of the community in 7th Mile and its surroundings.

“As an educated person, Mr Michael Kong should understand the needs of development, especially infrastructure in Mile 7 Bazaar,” he added.

Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, said that Kong with his learned background and experiences, should give and suggest to government agencies constructive ways to deal with the problem.

“Instead of adding unnecessary fuel to fire! It doesn’t benefit the society as a whole,” he lamented.

Kong had on Oct 12 complained that the closure of one exit route along Jalan Penrissen had aggravated the already bad traffic congestion problem at 7th Mile Bazaar.

He also pointed out that the community had complained about the immense inconvenience with the new traffic flow arrangement which redirects traffic to the already highly congested Jalan Liu Shan Bang.

Kong added that shopkeepers and residents have made several complaints to MPP and PWD but their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

As such, he would formally write to both PMC and PWD to request for the authorities to accede to the people’s needs and open the exit route along Jalan Penrissen at the Ee Ann City commercial area. — DayakDaily
