KUCHING, April 20: Kulleh Comrades will bring Sarawak’s name to the world stage when they perform at the Venice Biennale art event in Italy, from April 21 to April 26.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that bringing Sarawak’s name to the international stage is a high achievement and a source of pride.

“I hope the Kulleh Comrades group will be able to do a good show and show in Venice later.

“I understand that they are given priority to perform on the opening day of the show, which is on April 22.

“This shows that their achievements are very much appreciated by the organisers,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from the Kulleh Comrades Group at the Baitulmakmur II Building here on Wednesday.

Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, went on to say that the group’s performance can help promote tourism activities in Sarawak.

“At the same time, this can promote tourism activities related to Sarawak’s arts and culture that will be held.

“Among them are the Rainforest World Music Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival, both of which will take place in June,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Stanny Benedict, a representative of the group, expressed his pride at being able to perform on the Italian stage.

“We are proud because we not only bring the name of Kulleh Comrades to Venice, but also the names of Sarawak and Malaysia.

“This is a great achievement and experience for this newly merged group.

“We will perform Sarawak, Malay, and Iban music, as well as Sarawak and Malaysian literature-related performances,” he said.

Stanny also expressed his gratitude for the contributions and support of all parties who assisted in the future facilitation of their affairs.
