Sarawak to roll out second Covid-19 booster dose vaccination for elderly, young children this Friday (April 22)

KUCHING, April 20: Sarawak will begin administering second booster shots to individuals with high-risk comorbidities aged 60 and above as well as immunocompromised children aged 12 and above on April 22.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the vaccination would be available in all Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) at government clinics, private hospitals and private clinics.

He urged those eligible and interested to contact their respective PPVs to book their appointments, adding that the telephone number of PPVs in Sarawak are up on the Sarawak State Health Department’s (JKNS) official Facebook page.


Uggah, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, said as of April 19, a total of 1,637,167 or 90 per cent of eligible individuals in Sarawak have received their booster doses.

He thus urged the remaining 181,589 individuals to get their first booster doses as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Uggah received a courtesy call from new JKNS director Dr Ooi Choo Huck at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia this morning.

Dr Ooi, who has  30 years of service as a public health specialist in Sarawak, was appointed to the post on March 1, 2022 taking the baton over from Datuk Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed. — DayakDaily
