Kuching chicken farmer gets jail time, whipping for illegal possession of pistol

KUCHING, Feb 23: The Session Court here handed down a verdict of six years in prison and six strokes of the cane to a chicken farmer for possessing a pistol without a license.

Chia Lee Seng, 32, from Siburan, pleaded guilty to one charge read by the interpreter before Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.


According to the charge, he was accused under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1971 of possessing an MP-654K Cal 4.5 MM pistol without a license.

He committed the offence in the front parking lot of a hotel in King Centre around 11.30pm on April 12, 2023.

The Judge ordered the defendant to serve the prison sentence effective from the date of arrest on April 13, 2023.

According to the case facts, during the incident, the police conducted an inspection of the defendant’s car in the front parking lot of a hotel due to suspicious behaviour.

During the inspection, the police found a pistol and a pack containing six bullets. Furthermore, a search inside the car revealed a piece from a police uniform and police logo buttons.

Investigations revealed that the defendant possessed a pistol without a valid license.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim, while the defendant was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
