PADAWAN, June 7: The residents of Kampung Pain Bojong and nearby villages have been deeply acknowledged and appreciated for their tremendous sacrifice in willingly relocating from their ancestral lands to the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS)—a pivotal decision that facilitated Sarawak’s development and ensured a sustainable water supply for Kuching and its surrounding areas.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister for Transport (Air and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil emphasised that the relocation was instrumental in enabling the construction of the Bengoh Dam, which now serves as the primary water source for Kuching and its vicinity.

“The relocation of Kampung Pain Bojong and several other villages in 2014 was a critical step to secure Kuching’s long-term water supply through the Bengoh Dam project.
“More than 700 families were involved in the resettlement, with total costs reaching around RM400 million, including site preparation and the development of comprehensive infrastructure,” he said during the Certificate Presentation Ceremony for the new community leader of Kampung Pain Bojong, held in conjunction with the 2025 Gawai Dayak celebration on Friday (June 6).
Today, the BRS area has evolved into a thriving community, equipped with modern amenities such as quality housing, paved access roads, clean water supply, electricity, and agricultural land.
Education has also been made a priority with the establishment of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taba Sait, which now benefits children from several surrounding villages.
At the same event, Rijau Among was officially appointed as the new Ketua Kaum (community leader) of Kampung Pain Bojong—symbolising the continuity of strong grassroots leadership in driving community development.
Dr Jerip, who also serves as the Mambong assemblyman, announced an allocation of RM200,000 to upgrade the village halls in Kampung Semban and Pain Bojong, along with an additional RM30,000 earmarked for future works under Phases 3 or 4 of the project. — DayakDaily
