KUCHING, May 2: All KMC Flats tenants will be able to enjoy 50 per cent discounts on their rent for six months.
The information was disclosed by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng during his Facebook live talk session.
He revealed that Minister for Local Government and Housing (MLGH) Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian had personally approved the 50 per cent rent discounts from April to September 2020 recently.
“In my Facebook live talk session (with the public) on April 28, there were requests and suggestions from the public whether there will be discounts given for rental of KMC Flats.
“After the live talk session, I had presented a letter to Dr Sim. On the same day, he replied me through e-mail around midnight (Apr 28) in which he said he had sorted out all the matters (relating to tenants of KMC Flats to be given discounts),” Wee said in his live Facebook talk session today during which he also broadcast a recorded WhatsApp message from Dr Sim.
Wee stated that more than 500 tenants of KMC Flats would benefit from the 50 per cent discounts on rents between April and September.
He said the subsidised rent by the MLGH will reduce the council’s income by RM200,000 this year.
In the meantime, Wee welcomed any feedback and suggestion by the public to improve the council operations.
He said the council would forward any good suggestions and proposal on public health and safety by the public to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for consideration.
At the same time, he advised the public to practise social distancing when buying groceries at the wet market as he observed that there are still a few quarters who did not abide by the order from the federal government and bought goods from the wet market in a crowded manner.
On another note, Wee revealed that MBKS had requested the Ministry for Local Government and Housing to provide additional 30,000 pieces of face masks for the people in MBKS area.
He stated Dr Sim has managed to obtain 10,000 pieces of face masks adding that MBKS councillors will be distributing it to the resident this week for those who have yet to receive it. —DayakDaily
