KUCHING, Sept 18: The Kuching-China Trade Importers and Exporters Association (KCTIEA) urges the Sarawak government to launch more direct flights and maritime links between Sarawak and China.

According to its chairman, Datuk Yii Ming Tang, doing so will increase competitiveness in economic and trade development, particularly in light of current international situations such as the new epidemic and the Russian-Ukraine war.

“These events have brought forth a chain reaction in fluctuating energy, food, transportation, economy, and other crises, and it is likely that it will continue to evolve by the end of the year.

“If these crises go out of control, they will cause immense repercussions on the global economy and security.

“For this reason, we fully support the Malaysia government’s one-China policy,” Yii said in his speech at the KCTIEA 48th Anniversary Dinner Celebration at a restaurant here earlier tonight.

He said that the association also encourages its members to strengthen their business management skills in order to maintain a strong alliance with China’s growing business enterprises.

“If we combine our efforts, we can craft a new chapter for a brighter future,” he added.

The KCTIEA dinner, themed “Together We Create Brilliance”, was held to commemorate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the 48th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.

Also present were Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Special Envoy of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of China Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang representing Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, event organising chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok, and the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching His Excellency Xing Weiping. — DayakDaily
