KUCHING, Feb 21: Equal allocations regardless of political affiliation and channeling additional funding to Sarawak and Sabah MPs are the ways to address poverty and local issues, says Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.

“(The) Government should give equal allocation to government backbenchers and the Opposition alike and provide additional funding to Sabah and Sarawakian MPs.

“That is the sincere way to address poverty and to empower the MPs to address local issues immediately,” said Sng in a Facebook post last night (Feb 20).

On Feb 3, Sng voiced his concern over the possibility that the unity government would slash MPs’ respective constituency allocations in 2023 by over 70 per cent.

He said that the MPs were given the same allocation under the three previous prime ministers, with an additional allocation of RM500,000 for MPs from Sarawak and Sabah.

The Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president expressed hope that the government would reconsider reducing the allowance because such a move would negatively impact the people. — DayakDaily
