Julau MP ‘disappointed’ over possible 70 pct cut to constituency allocations

Datuk Larry Sng

KUCHING, Feb 3: Julau MP Larry Sng expressed his disappointment over the possibility that the unity government would slash their respective constituency allocations in 2023 by over 70 per cent.

Sng said that the MPs were given the same allocation under the three previous prime ministers.

“There is even an additional allocation of RM500,000 that is provided for MPs from East Malaysia,'” he said in his Facebook post on Feb 2.

“I hope the unity government reconsiders reallocating more resources for the people because many people are negatively impacted by such a move,” he lamented.

According to the national news portal Malaysiakini, which learned of the reduction in the allocations, if more than 70 per cent were cut in the constituency allocations, it would be reduced from RM3.8 million to about RM1.3 million.

Last December, Prime Minister Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim, in his effort to cut government expenditure, said federal Cabinet ministers would have their salaries cut by 20 per cent every month until the economy has recovered. — DayakDaily
