KUCHING, Dec 5: The federal Cabinet ministers will have their salaries cut by 20 per cent every month, says Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The Cabinet ministers, in the spirit of concern for the people’s problems, have agreed to a salary reduction every month by 20 per cent.

“This will continue until the economy has recovered. If the economy has recovered in three years, we will review this matter again because a salary cut would not be reasonable, but I thank the Cabinet ministers’ willingness to make some sacrifices,” he said in a special press conference held in Putrajaya today.

Anwar further shot down the assumption by certain quarters that he has no problem not taking the prime minister’s salary because he still gets the salary as finance minister.

“This is incorrect. There is only one salary,” he clarified.

On Nov 25, Anwar announced that he would reduce the federal Cabinet size and propose reducing its members’ salaries. — DayakDaily
