KUCHING, Feb 20: The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) is the endgame of every student’s secondary education. This is the moment candidates have been anticipating or dreading.

Today marks the first day of the SPM examinations, and some examination candidates at Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching at Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa could be seen with anxious expressions, while others appeared calm and ready to take the exam.

Instinctively, I felt a twinge of nervousness as I watched the students file into the school’s examination hall, recalling my own first-examday jitters.

A total of 102 SPM candidates from Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching are sitting for the first SPM written examination today, which is Bahasa Melayu (Penulisan).

Sarawak Education Department deputy director Dr Abang Hut Abang Engkeh and Padawan District Education Officer Dr Abang Adam Abang Deli were among those who were at the school to review the progress of the first day of the SPM examination.

Meanwhile, a total of 36,523 SPM candidates have registered at 259 examination centres across Sarawak.

A total of 7,958 examination officers have also been appointed to ensure the written SPM examinations proceed smoothly.
