“In recent years, it has been observed that Indonesian performers have consistently been a crowd favourite, with fans enjoying music from artists such as Tulus, Tompi, Kunto Aji, and others.

“I am happy to announce that Afgan will be one of our top headliners this year. Afgan has quite a big fan base in Malaysia and also locally in Sarawak, and his name has been requested by fans of the festival for many years.

“After three successful festivals since 2017, we are finally able to fulfil this request and bring Afgan to perform at the Kuching Jazz 2022,” MTCP minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated during the launch.

He highlighted that KJ2022 will also feature artists and bands from Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with more artists to be announced in the coming weeks.

He also revealed that the event will be included in the What About Kuching (WAK) calendar of events.

In previous years, the festival had attracted nearly 4,000 festival-goers annually.

Acclaimed jazz musicians and bands from all over the globe who have performed at the jazz festival include Ernie Watts (USA), Aisyah Aziz (Singapore), Carmen Souza Trio (Portugal), Natalie Gillespie Band (Australia), Baihana (Philippines), Malaysian stars Sheila Majid, Ning Baizura, Dayang Nurfaizah, Blues Gang, and crowd favourites from Indonesia Kunto Aji, Tompi, Aditya, Tulus, and Harvey Malaiholo.
