KUCHING, April 24: Housing developers here are advised to build smart houses equipped with solar power systems.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) today, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said it will not only help reduce users’ monthly electricity bills, but at the same time support Sarawak’s environmental sustainability efforts.

“Recently, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that we are encouraging housing developers to include solar panel components.

“This is to ensure that users can save energy and at the same time to ensure that we can jointly develop an environment-friendly industry, so electricity consumption can be reduced,” he told reporters at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here today.

On the same note, he said the Sarawak government has not ruled out the possibility of amending the existing housing legislative obliging developers to introduce solar systems in their housing projects.

“Perhaps in the future as a result of joint discussions with many parties, we can make amendments, enactments to our housing laws to ensure that new houses that are built will install these solar panels for the benefit of all parties,” he added. — DayakDaily
