Habitual drug offender sentenced to 5 years jail, whipping

KUCHING, Oct 12: A drug offender, Mohammad Tarmizi Hassani, a 38-year-old resident of Kampung Kudei, was sentenced to five years in prison and whipping by the Sessions Court here today.

He pleaded guilty to repeated methamphetamine and amphetamine drug offenses, and had three previous convictions, one in 2019 and two in February 2023, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.


In this latest case, he was accused of possessing methamphetamine and amphetamine at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Kuching District Police Headquarters on July 20 at around 2.40pm.

The court ordered that he be placed under police supervision for three years following his prison term.

The case’s facts revealed that the police apprehended the accused, who was suspected of being involved in recurring drug abuse activities.

An initial urine screening test returned a positive result for drugs.

Subsequent laboratory analysis conducted by the Sarawak General Hospital’s Pathology Department confirmed that the accused had tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim handled the prosecution, while the accused did not have legal representation. — DayakDaily
