GPS Wee to DAP Chong: Don’t take credit for what former CM has done

KUCHING, Dec 13: Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Padungan, Chong Chieng Jen, has been told to not take credit for what former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, has done.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Padungan Dato Wee Hong Seng said this in a press conference today in response to Chong’s statement on a flyover in the Kota Sentosa constituency where he (Chong) is its incumbent.

“To me, you can take credit for anything. But to the late Adenan, I think we should not have taken credit from him. As a (sign of) respect, I think in Sarawak, everybody treats him as an idol; a respected person,” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked if Wee, who is also Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor, could win the N9 Padungan seat with a big majority, Wee said that no one could predict the outcome.

“Like I said, I have presented you with what I have done in my report card, and I’m still doing it. At this present moment, I will give a report card of what I’ve done in the past and now doing for the present; I’m still following up with the most concerning part, which is the economic part of it,” he said.

Wee gave an example of following up with the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) on the disbursement of the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 7.0 financial assistance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) business owners.

“According to the site, they have started to give out the assistance, but they cannot do it all in one lump sum as the figure is too big. They have started giving out the assistance on Dec 1, and to date, over 1,000 companies have already received the assistance.

Wee added that they would let the voters decide who they deem worthy enough to be Padungan’s elected representative.

“We have put out on my manifesto all the planning for the future of the constituency. We will let the voters decide; nobody knows how voters will vote, and we don’t know what’s on their minds.

“At least, we respect their decision, but I hope I will be given a chance to serve them better,” he said. — DayakDaily
