Go for GPS candidates, says Sibu Municipal Council chairman

Clarence Ting

SIBU, Nov 28: A clarion call has been made to elect representatives who are with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) so that Sibu can have more development funds.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting in making this appeal at the earth-breaking ceremony of the upgrading of Taman Selera Muhibbah today said the town needs funding so that it could change its image.

“I hope all of us will elect the right representatives who will give funding to Sibu so that we can build Sibu.

“SMC cannot do it alone as its funding is limited. We can only have more development if we have more YBs (elected representatives) who can help Sibu,” he said.

He said if all five seats in Sibu — Nangka, Dudong, Bukit Assek, Pelawan, and Bawang Assan — go to the government, funds totalling RM225 million would come in as each representative would have an allocation of RM45 million.

Of the five seats, only Nangka under its incumbent, Dr Annuar Rapaee, is with the government while the rest are under the Opposition.

For the 12th Sarawak Election, Ting hoped the people would give the new faces who are with the government a chance to serve them for five years.

He said if these candidates are elected, they would be able to bring in funds to the State, including Sibu. By then, SMC will be busy carrying out development projects since funds will be made available.

“I take this job to serve the people. I don’t mind the hard work. The problem is when you don’t have much work, and you sit down there and think, ‘What am I doing here?’

“So let us hope this election we will have a significant change. Give these people a chance for five years. After all, you have given the other group 10 years already. The results are here for all of you to see,” he said.

Ting asserted that he lives on the principle that “a good YB is one who can get funding and projects for Sibu. That is a good YB.” — DayakDaily
