KUCHING, Nov 18: The 10th Miri Country Music Fest (MCMF) 2023, scheduled to be held from Dec 1 to 2 at Coco Cabana, Miri, will offer free entry for the two-day event.
The festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary, will feature a diverse lineup of nine bands from the USA, Vietnam, Malaysia, and various local bands from Sarawak.
Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Permanent Secretary Gracie Geikie, expressed enthusiasm for the festival, highlighting its role in boosting tourism and establishing Miri as a hub for international events.
“It is always great to see more and more local bands, young and old, being given a platform to showcase their musical talent to a bigger audience,” she said.
In addition to musical performances, the festival will host a bazaar showcasing local crafts, arts, and native cuisines, offering a unique cultural experience.
The festival’s CSR initiative, the ‘Buku Project,’ will continue, inviting attendees to donate used books for distribution to rural schools.
“Festival attendees and the local community are invited to donate used books that will be distributed to rural schools in need, contributing to the advancement of literacy within our communities,” she said.
Among the bands performing at MCMF 2023 are the Johnny Kongo Trio from the USA and Vietnam, Os Pombos from KL, Country Road Band, Sessionista, and The Sape Movement from Miri.
The festival will also include a free 5km Fun Run along Marina Park on Dec 2 at 5pm.
