Fire sweeps through 20 hectares of oil palm estate in Saratok

KUCHING, June 7: A fire broke out at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Kupang, Saratok, affecting an estimated 20 hectares of land on Saturday (June 6).

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 11.05am, and firefighters from the Saratok station were deployed.

Upon arrival, it was confirmed that a fire had occurred at the Scheme C oil palm plantation in Kampung Kupang.

The operations commander instructed personnel to use full personal protective equipment (PPE) and deployed a GP 10/10 portable pump with one 400-foot hose line drawing water from an open water source to contain and extinguish the fire.

However, the firefighting operation had to be suspended due to darkness and will resume today. — DayakDaily
