KUCHING, Sept 21: Two 24-hour convenience stores in Kuching were targeted in separate acts of arson on Sunday (Sept 20), with one incident involving two suspects and two explosions that sparked a fire.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the incidents occurred between 7.05pm and 8.30pm at King Centre and along Jalan Green Road.
He said the first incident at King Centre involved the use of firecrackers and did not result in any losses.
In the second incident along Jalan Green Road, two male suspects allegedly arrived at the premises and threw an object inside, causing two explosions and a fire.
The fire was subsequently extinguished by firefighters.
Police are investigating both cases under Section 436 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine upon conviction.
Efforts are underway to identify and trace the two suspects.
Police are appealing to anyone with information on the incidents to contact investigating officer Insp Tan Chiang Fook at 018-262 8805 or the Kuching IPD Operations Room at 082-244 444.
