KUCHING, Oct 11: A 35-year-old woman was found burnt to death in a house fire at Jalan Taman Kim Pang here this afternoon.
The single-storey semi-permanent house, measuring about 40 by 30 feet, was completely destroyed in the blaze.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), it received an emergency call at 3.57pm and arrived at the scene at 4.15pm.
Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that a woman was believed to be trapped inside the burning house, which was occupied by six people.
Firefighters from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Batu Lintang station, conducted a search for the victim while battling the blaze.
The woman was found burnt to death at 4.36pm and her remains were handed over to the police for further action.
The fire was brought under control at 4.25pm, with the operation ending at 6.09pm after firefighters completed overhaul work to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
A total of 17 firefighters were deployed, using two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
Police and Health Ministry personnel were also present at the scene. — DayakDaily
