SIBU, Nov 4: The fire stations in Malaysia, including the 38 stations in Sarawak, are fully prepared for the year-end monsoon season.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director-general Abdul Wahab Mat Yasin announced that all 330 Bomba stations across the country, including the 38 in Sarawak, are ready to take action during the monsoon season, which typically begins in November.

In preparation for the wet season, over 13,000 firefighters have undergone training.

The department also has 2,100 auxiliary firefighters and 13,500 voluntary firemen, totaling more than 29,000 personnel nationwide.

Wahab added that they have identified the necessary assets for rescue work during the monsoon season.

Regarding the request for a station in Julau, he explained that suitable land must be identified and approved by the relevant authorities before construction can proceed.

“We need to solve the land issue first. When the site is ready, Julau MP will have to bring it up in Parliament before it can be included in the fourth or fifth rolling of 12th Malaysia Plan,” he said.

Abdul Wahab’s visit to Sibu was part of his tour, which also includes visits to stations in Bintulu and participating in the opening of the Asajaya station on Monday. — DayakDaily
