SIBU, Sept 10: A fire destroyed four single-storey wooden houses at Jalan Amoi here today, leaving 17 people including three children, homeless.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre (PGO) received the emergency call at 8.33am, prompting it to despatch 21 firefighters from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah fire stations to the scene.

Bomba Sarawak acting deputy director Tiong Ling Hii said firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading further as the houses are very closely linked to each other.

Fire consumes four wooden houses at Jalan Amoi.

However, about 90 per cent of all the four houses were destroyed.

“We manage to put out the fire by 9.08am. No one was injured in the blaze. Fire investigators are at the scene to determine the cause of the fire and to assess the value of loss incurred,” operations commander Mohd Luthfil Hadi Roslan said. — DayakDaily
