SIBU, July 1: A poultry farmer’s negligence in leaving his four-wheel drive vehicle with the engine still on while disposing of chicken feathers at Sungai Merah resulted his vehicle getting stolen by an unknown person.

The loss was estimated at RM50,000.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at about 7.50pm on Monday (June 28), the 49-year-old victim stopped by a garbage bin and alighted from the vehicle to dump items.

“When he was done, he went to wash his hands at a water tap nearby. Suddenly an unknown man got into his car and sped away (in the vehicle) towards the town direction,” he said today.

Stanley added that when the victim arrived at the garbage bin earlier, he saw a man standing near a tree some 30 metres away.

“However, the victim did not suspect anything because it is a market area,” he added.

The vehicle is still covered by insurance, is not bound by a hire purchase agreement and has been used for nine years.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for stealing,” Stanley added. — DayakDaily
