Miri police apprehend 4 suspects believed to be part of car theft, break-in syndicate

The carcass of a car was discovered by police, believed to have been dismantled by the thieves.

MIRI, Dec 30: The police have detained four local men, aged between 22 to 50, believed to be actively involved in a spree of car thefts and house break-ins in the city.

With the arrests, authorities claim to have successfully resolved several cases, amounting to an estimated RM18,000 in losses.

Miri Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, revealed that the arrests occurred on Dec 27 around 3pm when a team from the Miri Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a raid at a house in Pujut 8.


The suspects have since been remanded for four days to aid ongoing police investigations.

Detailing the modus operandi of the apprehended individuals, Alexson explained that they targeted unoccupied homes during midnight and early morning hours when residents were away at work.

“In the course of the investigation, a stolen and dismantled Perodua Viva was discovered hidden in a bush area along the Permyjaya By-Pass road,” he added.

Highlighting the criminal background of the suspects, Alexson noted that all of them had prior records related to drug offenses and other criminal activities.

Additionally, they tested positive for methamphetamine during the arrests.

The case is currently under investigation under Section 457 and Section 379A of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
