KUCHING, March 4: Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof will meet with Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek to find out the reasons or rationale behind the Ministry’s decision not to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Noting that the Ministry of Education (MOE) has provided explanation recently that it has no intention of incorporating UEC into the national education syllabus, Fadillah said he will share with Fadhlina on the Sarawak government’s approach in recognising the UEC.

“I will discuss it with her to get a better understanding of the reasons as to why MOE decided not to accept UEC as part of the national syllabus,” he told reporters after attending the “Juh Bekpes Bersama FY” programme at a coffee shop in Metrocity, Matang, today.

Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya member of Parliament (MP), emphasised that he will give support if the Federal government follows what the Sarawak government has exercised in recognising the UEC.

He recalled that the previous government had decided to recognise the UEC on condition that the management of the Chinese private schools accepted the national education syllabus such as History subject.

“So that means there is still room for us to negotiate and discuss with all related stakeholders in the Chinese education sector.Let me get all the details first,” he added.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Fadhlina has, in a parliamentary written reply to a question from Jerai MP Sabri Azit, said that the Ministry does not plan to recognise the UEC based on the National Education Policy and the Education Act 1996. — DayakDaily
