Emperoh Jambu, Jalan Tanjung clusters see double-digit increase in new Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, March 17: Funeral cluster of Emperoh Jambu in Kuching and workplace cluster of Jalan Tanjung in Bintulu registered double-digit increase of Covid-19 cases today with 15 new infections each today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, revealed that the cluster’s total for Emperoh Jambu thus swelled to 324 while Jalan Tanjung to 34.

As of today, a total of 1,800 individuals linked to Emperoh Jambu Cluster have been screened whereby 1,355 were negative and 121 were still waiting for lab test results.

As for Jalan Tanjung Cluster, a total of 142 individuals have been screened whereby 108 were negative and no results were pending.

The Jalan Tanjung Cluster was declared on March 15 after an employee of a supermarket at Jalan Tanjung in Kidurong, Bintulu tested positive of Covid-19. The woman who was suspected to have been infected in the community in Bintulu town had spread the disease to 18 other people.

Apart from these two, four existing active clusters in Sarawak also saw an increase in daily infections today namely community clusters of Kampung Hilir in Sibu and Jalan Main Bazaar in Sri Aman; longhouse cluster of Kiba in Sibu; as well as cockfighting cluster of Jalan Muhibbah in Betong.

The Kampung Hilir Cluster in Sibu picked up two cases, to bring the cluster’s total to 37. A total of 43 individuals have been screened whereby four were negative while two were awaiting lab results.

Jalan Main Bazaar Cluster, Kiba Cluster and Jalan Muhibbah Cluster each recorded one new case to push the cluster’s total to 15, 39 and 318 respectively.

As for Jalan Muhibbah, a total of 2,900 individuals have been screened whereby 2,555 were negative while 27 were still awaiting for lab results.

Sarawak also declared one new workplace cluster dubbed Jalan Merpati in Miri with 51 positive cases today. This thus increased the number of active clusters in Sarawak to 32.

The remaining 25 clusters did not record any cases today. They were Gelong and Jan Yong in Kapit; Nanga Bulo, Tunggal and Nanga Lijan in Julau; Sanyan, Geronggang and Pasai in Sibu; Begalak in Song; Buluh Pasi in Meradong; Sena in Miri; Buloh in Selangau; Melor in Pusa; Jalan Ho Pin and Univista in Samarahan; Sungai Bakong in Meradong; Kampung Sungai Maong and Jalan Green in Kuching; Kejatau and Sebangkoi in Sri Aman; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng in Bintulu; Seruas in Beluru; Rakut in Miri; and sub-cluster Tagap in Subis. — DayakDaily
