KUCHING, May 8: It is important to educate the younger generation about the importance of charity in modern society, as a gracious and compassionate younger generation will ensure that graciousness and compassion remain a national value.

According to a press release, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng stated this today while participating in the Tzu Chi Buddha Day celebration, which coincided with Mother’s Day and World Tzu Chi Day.

Wee stated in his speech that he was delighted to be a part of the celebration and that he values what the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation Malaysia (Kuching) (Tzu Chi) has contributed to society and the community at large.

“Today, what we enjoy and celebrate is through love, tolerance, and respect for each other.

“Contribution through sincerity, selfless sacrifices out of love, and serving with a sincere heart.

“In real life, our mother is like the Buddha, who makes sacrifices for us, protects us, and unconditionally loves us,” he expressed.

During the visit, Wee was impressed by the pride and commitment shown by Tzu Chi members, and he was pleased to see so many young people among them.

He also encouraged Tzu Chi to continue its charitable work and to be a part of the “thousand hands”. — DayakDaily
