KUCHING, June 21: Economic success can also be translated into service and contributions to the people, as shown by the Association of Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders of Malaysia (Pekema) Sarawak branch when it presented assistance to those in need at its Ngiling Bidai Gawai ceremony recently.
According to Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the ‘ngiling bidai’ is not just to mark the end of the month-long Gawai Dayak festivities, but also for everyone to come together again as a community.
“In this atmosphere of goodwill and Gawai spirit, I am honoured to be with the local community and the Sarawak branch of Pekema at this Ngiling Bidai programme, which was further enlivened by the presentation of contributions to those in need.
“To me, this is the true meaning of a celebration. It is not only about customs and traditions, but also about our concern for our fellow human beings. Every contribution given may seem small to some, but to the recipients, it carries great meaning and provides a measure of relief in their daily lives.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Pekema for its continued commitment to carrying out its corporate social responsibility and playing a role in helping the community,” he said in a Facebook post.
At the same time, Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, said that Sarawak is fortunate to have a leader like Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who consistently focuses on economic development and the well-being of the people.
He said that with a stable and conducive political environment, efforts to develop the State’s economy can be carried out with greater confidence, organisation, and effectiveness.
“I believe that when the government, private sector, and community move forward together, we will not only be able to build a more prosperous economy but also ensure that more people benefit from that progress,” he said. — DayakDaily
