KUCHING, March 23: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will continue to join other councils and organisations in Sarawak in reaffirming their stand in the protection and preservation of the environment not just for themselves but also for the countless species that call this planet home.

Its mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, urged all the councils in Sarawak to pledge to reduce their carbon footprint, embrace sustainable practices, and work towards a cleaner and greener future for all.

“I am deeply honoured to be a part of this momentous occasion, and I am confident that by joining forces, we can create a brighter tomorrow for generations to come. Let us make this Virtual Earth Hour one to remember,” he said during the Virtual Earth Hour 2024 programme held at his office tonight.

Wee called all councils and organisations involved in this year’s Virtual Earth Hour to stand united in their commitment to safeguarding our planet and fostering a sustainable future for generations to come.

“This event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective action in addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing our world today,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to all who have contributed to the success of the event.

“Your dedication and passion for environmental conservation are truly inspiring, and I commend your unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in our community,” he said.

Joining MBKS in the virtual Earth Hour 2024 were the host Miri City Council, Kuching City North Commission (DBKU), Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (PKS), Sibu Rural District Council (SRCC), and numerous commercial establishments, hotels, institutions, and shopping malls across cities in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
