Drainage, irrigation projects worth RM11.5 mln approved for villages in Daro

KUCHING, March 23: The government has approved the restoration, upgrading of drainage and irrigation infrastructure projects with a ceiling cost of RM11.5 million for Kampung Penipah and Kampung Tekajong in Daro.

As reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) yesterday (March 22), Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the approved project is under the ‘Proposed Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Tg Sirik Scheme Drainage and Irrigation Infrastructure (Block A and B Tekajong), Pulau Bruit, Mukah’.

“All the irrigation and drainage infrastructure will be upgraded to improve the success of crop cultivation in the area.


“The project is in the initial design phase and is planned to be tendered at the end of 2023,” he said in a written answer to Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab’s oral question which was not answered in the Dewan Rakyat, on Tuesday.

He added, throughout the year 2020 to 2022, the government has implemented four maintenance projects in the area which amounted to RM877,292.

“In addition, the ‘Proposed Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Drainage and Irrigation Infrastructure Scheme Tg Sirik (Block C), Pulau Bruit has also been approved with an allocation ceiling of RM10.5 million,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Sabu disclosed under the government’s initiative, two coastal erosion projects in Kampung Paloh and Kampung Kedang have been approved at a cost of RM20.5 million and RM6.4 million to address the matter.

He explained that both projects are also in the final design phase and are proposed to be tendered in stages from the second quarter of 2023. — DayakDaily
