MIRI, Aug 7: The RM250,000 project to upgrade four bridges at Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu has replaced the ageing wooden structures with concrete bridges, improving connectivity and providing safer access for residents.
In a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the latest bridge upgrade marked the completion of all four bridge improvement works in the village under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).
“This bridge is the last of the four bridges at Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu that have been upgraded to concrete structures,” he said during an inspection of the completed project today.
Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the new bridges would provide safer routes for residents while making daily movement more convenient, and added that additional safety works would be carried out around the bridges.
He said the Miri City Council (MCC) had been requested to install four road barriers at the bridge entrances and exits and to pave the gravel road at the nearby junction to ensure a proper connection to the bridge, and that its engineers who attended the inspection had agreed to implement the additional works soon.
Meanwhile, Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu village chief Usman Sulaiman said the project reflected the government’s continued efforts to improve basic infrastructure and enhance residents’ quality of life.
He said the village had also benefited from improved basic facilities, including roads, drainage systems, and electricity and gas supply, with the upgraded drainage system helping to reduce flood risks during heavy rain, although regular maintenance remained necessary.
The bridge upgrading project started on Dec 8, 2025 and was completed on April 7, 2026, within the scheduled timeframe. — DayakDaily
