KUCHING, Dec 19: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has managed to narrow the vote-gap and shift the people’s favour despite being unable to wrest back four Chinese-majority seats from the Opposition.

Its president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian described it as a positive sign that the people of Sarawak especially the Chinese community has started to waver and turn against the Opposition leaders.

“In the Opposition-based seats of which we usually contested in, we usually lose by 3,000 or 4,000 votes and now we have narrowed it to only a few hundred votes.

“This is a clear shift showing that the people of Sarawak, especially the Chinese community, are against those who are not performing (well), not keeping their promises and lying to the public,” he told reporters at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) gathering held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Dec 18).

Asked if he was referring to the Democratic Action Party (DAP) who was part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Federal government for 22 months, Dr Sim neither confirmed nor denied the matter.

“No need to mention names,” he simply said.

He also mentioned that SUPP has always believed in telling the truth and hard work rather than publicity stunts.

“That is why you can see the sentiment of the people; they are really angry and against some of the Opposition members,” he added.

GPS was able to win 12 out of 16 Chinese-majority State constituencies of which it was able to wrest N12 Kota Sentosa, N51 Bukit Assek, N52 Dudong, N54 Pelawan, N68 Tanjong Batu and N74 Pujut from DAP.

However, DAP managed to retain N9 Padungan and N10 Pending while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) retained N11 Batu Lintang and N53 Bawang Assan.

Nonetheless, Dr Sim said the party will continue to pursue the interests of the people like what it has done since 1959. — DayakDaily
