KUCHING, Sept 25: Strong unity among the people is a pillar of racial harmony in Sarawak.

Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said Sarawak is different from other states in Malaysia because of its strong practice of tolerance by its people.

“We don’t see a person in terms of religion, where they come from and so on.

“It is not about your background and your belief in god, it is about how you respect each other,” said Dr Rundi in his speech during a thanksgiving ceremony after attending Sunday service at St Thomas More Church at Kampung Kandis Baru in Bau, today.

Meanwhile, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh conveyed his gratitude to the Sarawak government for providing the allocation to build houses of worship in the State.

He said this is the uniqueness of Sarawak where the ‘unity in diversity’ prevails.

“We need to preserve this because unity is our strength in Sarawak,” he added.
