Sukma athletes make strong showing at 18th Dynasty Hotel charity run

MIRI, Sept 25: Three Sarawakian Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2022 athletes dominated in the Men’s Open category of Dynasty Hotel’s 18th charity run early this morning as they clinched the champion title, second runner-up and fourth placing.

Lucas Wong Sie Hong, 20, Sarawak’s bronze medalist in 5000-metre running event in the recent Sukma 2022 emerged champion in the Men’s Open category, while second runner up was Jetris Foo also 20, and Ellison Wong, 18 in 4th placing.


The trio had recently return from participating in Sukma 2022.

The first runner-up was Izzat Haikal Ismal.

A total of 750 runners took part in the event this year which saw the Men’s and Women’s Open (10km), Men’s and Women’s Veteran (10km) and 4km fun run being contested.

Present to flag off the event this morning were Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development I (Women and Childhood Development) Datuk Rosey Yunus, Miri Mayor Adam Yii and Chia Kah Furng who was representing Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Dynasty Hotel’s managing director Tony Pui.

Fatimah in her opening remarks lauded Dynasty Hotel’s effort in organising the charity run event which aims to raise funds to help underprivileged people in Miri.

“I call for more corporations to emulate Dynasty Hotel and implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in charity. Charity events held today prove that there are no boundaries in doing charitable activities,” she said.

Fatimah added that since the hotel’s charity run started in 2003, Dynasty Hotel has never stopped channeling financial assistance to the underprivileged.

“This year is the 18th time it has been held. In 2020, which was the 17th Dynasty Hotel Charity Run, a 25km run was originally planned but due to the world being hit by the Covid-19 epidemic, it was postponed,” she said.

All proceeds raised in this event will goes to the Dynasty Hotel Charity Fund for yearly giveaways which are usually in the form of goodies distributed during festive seasons such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Gawai Dayak.

Fatimah also praised the generosity of Mirians for their active participation in charity events to help the needy. — DayakDaily
