Police laud courageous act of duo in Desa Wira snatch theft case

KUCHING, April 29: Police lauded the selfless act of two civilians, Ng Chau Seng and Chomson Gon, who acted quickly in helping the victim of a snatch theft case that happened at Jalan Desa Wira, Batu Kawa, on April 22.

In a statement, acting Padawan District Police Chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the incident was recorded in a dashcam footage, which showed two vehicles blocking the two suspects, who were on a motorcycle, from getting away after robbing a handbag from an elderly woman.


Lim expressed his utmost appreciation to two men who acted quickly to help the victim, and the police later acknowledged their actions by presenting them with certificates of appreciation and souvenirs.

Meanwhile, he said that the two suspects have pleaded guilty to a charge of robbing and voluntarily causing hurt to the victim.

The charge, under Section 394 of the Penal Code, was read to them at the Kuching Sessions Court today.

Lim said both suspects were sentenced to ten years in prison and ten strokes of the cane.

“On April 22, 2024, at approximately 7.54am, an incident occurred involving a woman in her 50s who was robbed by two suspects riding a motorcycle along Jalan Desa Wira, Batu Kawa.

“With quick action and help from the public, one of the suspects was arrested at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, another suspect managed to escape.

“Based on a tip, police managed to arrest the other suspect later on the same day,” Lim said. — DayakDaily
