KUCHING, May 16: The eighth edition of the Samarahan Bike Challenge will feature two new categories, namely the Junior category (16–21-years-old) and Youth Development (15-years-old and under).
According to Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the two categories were introduced to encourage youth to hone and demonstrate their talents in cycling sports.
“We want to find young cyclists and train them until they become professionals,” said Abdul Karim during a press conference held in the Mulu conference room at the Baitulmakmur II building here today.
Samarahan Bike Challenge 2024 will be held on May 26. The five other categories to be featured are Sarawak Closed Criterion, Men’s Open (16-years-old and above), Master A (35–44-years-old), Master B (45-years-old and above), and Ladies (16-years-old and above).
Cash prizes totalling up to RM22,800 will be awarded to the top ten cyclists in each category.
The details on the categories and prizes for Samarahan Bike Challenge 2024 are as follows:

The event is co-organised by the Samarahan District Office with assistance from Sarawak Cycling Association (Technical Division), and with the support of MTCP and Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Sarawak. — DayakDaily
