Businessman gets 96 months’ jail, 2 rotan strokes for robbery, causing injury

KUCHING, Oct 10: A businessman has been sentenced to 96 months in prison and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here today for robbing a woman, causing injuries, in early October.

Dennil Fauzi, 32, from Kampung Haji Baki, pleaded guilty to one charge read before Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi.

According to the charge, he and another accomplice who is still at large robbed a 52-year-old woman, causing injuries. They committed the offense at a ticket coupon booth on Jalan Song at around 9.08 in the morning on October 2.

The accused was charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and could be fined or caned.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Fauzan Zamri, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.

According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the complainant, who is the victim’s sister, received a call from the victim stating that her bag had been snatched by two men on a motorcycle in front of a car park ticket booth on Jalan Song.

When the complainant arrived at the scene, she saw the victim injured in the left arm and with swelling on her head. The complainant then took the victim to a hospital for further treatment before filing a police report for further action.

The victim lost important items such as her ATM card, MyKad, driver’s licence, credit card, and RM700 in cash.

On October 4, around 9.45pm, the police received a report of a robbery in front of a shopping centre on Jalan Simpang Tiga, with members of the public successfully apprehended the suspects.

The police arrested the accused for further investigation and action.

As a result of the investigation, it was found that the accused had caused injury to the victim during the robbery based on the police report on October 2. — DayakDaily
