KUCHING, May 16: Cycling facilities, especially for the Mountain Bike Track (MBT) in Siol for this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) on Aug 17 are scheduled for completion in July.
While the route is slated for completion in July, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hopes to have it finished ahead of schedule, particularly for Sarawakian cyclists preparing to represent Sukma, as it is the same route being used for the event.
“It would be better for our representing cyclists to acclimatise themselves to the route, especially if we are looking to win the gold medal,” said Abdul Karim when met by reporters at Baitulmakmur II today.
When asked about Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s statement yesterday (May 15) regarding the construction of a new Kuching International Airport (KIA), Abdul Karim said that the current KIA has outlived its purpose.
“The number of passengers that comes in and out of the airport has exceeded the capacity. Kuching’s (current) airport is very congested,” he said.
“The old airport (KIA) will still be an airport, probably for private usage. We (Sarawak government) will plan and decide as it is,” said Abdul Karim. — DayakDaily
