KUCHING, March 6: Damage to the road stretch from Bakun junction to Bakun Dam in Bintulu could not be patched within 24 hours, says Deputy Work Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) today, in informing the Dewan Rakyat, Abdul Rahman told the Dewan Rakyat the damage was caused by overloaded vehicles using the route, and that damage still occurs even if repair work has been carried out.

“A comprehensive approach is needed, involving all parties, especially the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to find a solution for the overloaded vehicles.

“This will further reduce the issue of damaged roads and in the long run reduce the increasingly high maintenance costs,” he said when answering a question from Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee who wanted to know the latest results in the implementation of the ‘Zero Potholes’ policy implemented by the mnistry.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman told Parliament that a total of 56,553 potholes in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan has been successfully patched last year.

He also said all of the potholes have been successfully patched within 24 hours for Peninsular Malaysia while for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, only 431 potholes could not be patched within 24 hours with an achievement of 99.24 per cent. — DayakDaily
