KUCHING, June 1: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will leave it to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on whether a leader should retire or continue to serve the people amid rumours that he (Uggah) will retire this coming State election.

“I leave it to the Premier, our president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB). He has the wisdom to determine whether a leader should retire or continue (serving the people),” he said during a doorstep interview at his Gawai Dayak open house at the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex here today.

This came amid a report that Works Minister and Kapit MP, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has expressed interest in continuing his political career at the Sarawak level, where he also hinted that he may not defend his parliamentary seat to pave the way for younger candidates.

Uggah, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and New Economy and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said a similar move has been made in Sarawak when he came back for the 2016 State election after serving as Betong MP as well as holding several ministerial roles at the federal level.

“Because we have seen (this) tradition in Sarawak. I also came back from West Malaysia to come here, and leaders come and go.

“We are getting old; we are running out of ideas. We may not be able to keep up with the technology. So, we leave it to the Premier to decide,” he said. — DayakDaily
