KUCHING, June 1: A 32-year-old man is feared to have drowned after the boat he was in capsized near SK Nanga Balang in Kapit.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 9.28am today, and firefighters from the Kapit station were deployed.
It was noted that during the incident, seven passengers were on the boat when it capsized.
“Passengers who were on board said the incident occurred at approximately 6.15pm on May 31 after the boat collided with a submerged rock protruding from the centre of the river.
“Six passengers managed to save themselves, except for the victim who was reportedly seen being swept away by the current about 50m from where the boat capsized before disappearing,” said the report.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted to locate the victim, identified as Spielberg Dylan Sekunyir.
Based on the report, Spielberg has short hair and tattoos on both arms. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and a pair of black shorts. — DayakDaily
