KUCHING, March 6: Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has stated that Sarawak remains the preferred investment destination, with a total investment of RM21.4 billion in 2023.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report today, Awang Tengah noted that the manufacturing sector is the main contributor to the value of the investment, which is about 62 per cent.

He went on to say that the amount of investment proved the achievement of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s initiatives in developing the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 policy and introducing green economies such as hydrogen and carbon trading.

“In 2023, Sarawak recorded a total investment of RM21.4 billion. The manufacturing sector accounted for 62 per cent of total investment, followed by the primary sector and the service sector.

“This achievement shows that Sarawak is still a preferred investment destination,” he was quoted as saying in the news report.

The minister made the remarks when speaking during the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (Mintred) 2024 Appreciation Dinner held here on March 4.

Awang Tengah, who is also Mintred minister, added that his ministry has implemented many programmes to support the social development agenda in the state.

He highlighted that all programmes implemented by Mintred should have an impact to achieve the goals of PCDS 2030.

“We must continue to work strategically with stakeholders and partners to attract more high quality investment to Sarawak.

“As civil servants, we must keep up with the latest global developments and trends such as new technologies, digitisation and other innovative solutions.

“Therefore, I urge everyone to continue to seek new knowledge and skills, especially in matters related to our ministry,” he said.

Also present were Mintred acting permanent secretary, Dzulkornian Masron and Mintred Small and Medium Enterprise advisor, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais. — DayakDaily
