KUCHING, Jan 11: A delivery man is fined RM700 by the Magistrate Court here for lodging a false police report, claiming to be a victim of robbery.

The motive behind the deceitful act was reportedly to conceal the fact that he had misused company funds for personal purposes and to avoid detection by his employer.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan also imposed a one-month jail term on the 21-year-old accused, Mohamad Syafiq Mahaden, who pleaded guilty to the offence, in case of failure to pay the fine.

The charge against Mohamad Syafig stemmed from an incident on November 26, 2023, around 6.09 pm, where he allegedly filed a false police report at the Bintawa Police Station.

According to the case details, the accused fabricated a story claiming to have been robbed by two individuals on motorcycles in Jalan Demak Industrial Park area.

In his report, he stated that the stolen items included company cash amounting to RM1,200 and his personal funds of RM60.

However, subsequent investigations revealed that the police report was entirely false as no robbery had taken place. The accused had not suffered any financial loss.

Further investigation disclosed that the false police report was an attempt by the accused to deceive his employer, a courier company, after the accused utilized the company fund of RM1,200 which was entrusted to him, for personal use.

Consequently, the accused was charged and found guilty under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

The accused was unrepresented by legal counsel in the case brought against him by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang. — DayakDaily
