DAP to set up task force to provide legal advice for 1,144 Sibu Jaya homeowners without land titles

SIBU, Dec 12: Democratic Action Party (DAP) is setting up a task force to provide legal advice to owners of 1,144 houses in Sibu Jaya that are still without land titles.

According to DAP candidate for N52 Dudong, Paul Ling Fong, these houses were built some 20 years ago and what is puzzling over the delay is that some of the owners have already settled the loan.

Ling said the incumbent for Bukit Assek, DAP’s Irene Chang on the request of the affected house owners, had in June 2019 brought up the issue at the State Legislative Assembly.

“She was told that the land titles will be issued by the end of 2020. We are into December 2021 and nothing concrete has come out of it,” he said.

Ling also highlighted that residents of 20 flats in Sibu Jaya are still experiencing extremely low water pressure since two to three years ago.

“The water pressure is so low that those staying in the four-storey flats have no water at all especially during mornings. It is only until 7-8pm that they can have (water) from the tap but then again the pressure is also low,” he said.

Most residents, Ling said, have to go downstairs to collect water from the large water tank provided by the water board.

“The problem is that every household has to take water pails to take water from the tank. However the water board doesn’t provide a water tank (to cater) for all of them. For their drinking water, they even have to buy bottled water from the shops,” he added.

Ling is proposing two solutions to end this water woe.

“For the short-term, I urge the water board to provide a water tank for every lane in the area. And for the long-term solution, I call on the government to build a water tower that will be able to provide enough water for the 33,000-population of Sibu Jaya,” he added. — DayakDaily
