KUCHING, May 31: A total of 265 small traders at Pasar Tamu Sibu Jaya in Sibu have received essential trading equipment in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots economic activities and improving daily business operations.
The assistance, which included weighing scales, tables and chairs, was distributed during a community programme highlighted by Dudong assemblyman Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, who said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support small traders and enhance local economic resilience.
Tiong who is also the Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Bintulu MP, further said the provision of basic equipment would help ease operational challenges faced by traders while enabling them to serve customers more efficiently.
““Hopefully this contribution can help small traders run their businesses, and in turn help develop the local economy,” he said in a Facebook post.
Tiong also took the opportunity to remind the public to celebrate the upcoming Gawai Dayak in a safe and responsible manner, urging revellers to avoid excessive drinking and to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
He stressed that road safety must remain a priority during the festive season, especially with increased travel between towns and rural areas.
At the same time, he encouraged residents in Dudong to reach out to the Dudong Service Centre for any assistance or issues they may face.
“If the people have any problems, please come to my service centre or you can call my phone number. I will help wherever I can. Let us work together and develop this Dudong area,” he added.
He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that local concerns are addressed promptly through direct engagement with the community.
The programme reflects continued efforts to empower small traders, strengthen community support systems, and promote responsible celebrations ahead of the Gawai festivities. — DayakDaily
