KUCHING, Feb 19: Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail will present new strategies to tackle security lapse in Kuching fighting Covid-19 on Monday (Feb 22).

In disclosing this, Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas acknowledged that one of the problems faced by SDMC in fighting Covid-19 in Kuching is the lapse of “enforcement” especially during the Valentine’s night.

“As mentioned before, after the Valentine night’s case, I went around Kuching to check on the enforcement and we knew that there is a need to review the enforcement in Kuching.

“Datuk Aidi will submit his proposal this Feb 22 and from there, we will mobilise our People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), Civil Defense Force (APM), army and Village Security Committee (JKKK) to control the situation in Kuching,” Uggah said in a press conference today.

While he repeatedly pleading to Sarawakians to observe the standard operating procedures (SOP), Uggah warned that if the people remained stubborn, SDMC will resort to strict enforcement.

“I hope it is not necessary and we will not come to this stage. As I kept saying over and over, please keep to the SOP (standard operating procedures), clean your hands at all times and adopt social distancing.

“Follow the SOP strictly not because you are afraid of getting compounded or arrested by the police, but please do this for your own health, your family, our community and Sarawak so that all of us can return to our normal life,” Uggah said. — DayakDaily
